J.R Smith, a 6-year veteran of the NBA, might be joining his teammate Carmelo Anthony. Or maybe former teammate.
The Denver Nuggets have expressed interest in parting ways with Carmelo Anthony, and now are looking to trade Guard J.R Smith. Smith is entering the last year of his contract with the team, and might be shipped away from the Rocky Mountains because of the job security of the Vice President of Basketball Operations.
Mark Warkentien, the man who made the move to get Smith from the Chicago Bulls might also be joining Smith in leaving the team. The Nuggets are not renewing his contract either. Three main parts of the Denver organization will be gone, leaving a huge hole for the rest of the team to fill. It is possible that his relationship with head coach George Karl might be a big reason as to why Denver wants to get rid of Smith.
Smith was seen sitting on the bench in the playoffs this year, seeming to not care about what was going on during the game. After their first round loss, Smith went on his twitter page and called out his teammates, saying that “if you play selfish, you lose selfish”
In 2008-09, he was the runner-up in the Sixth Man award, yet in 2009-10, he only averaged 15.4 points per game. He was drafted in 2004 by the Hornets, then traded to the Bulls in 2006. 6 days later, Warkentien made the transaction to get him to come to the Nuggets.
